UGH! REVISIONS

I’ve been concentrating on manuscript revisions since Thanksgiving.

And this is a good thing. Really.

Earlier this week I finished (or did I?) revisions on my middle-grade horror novel. Now I’m revising a humorous picture book manuscript with the hope of having it ready to submit for a critique session at the SCBWI New England conference in April.

Re-writing the picture book longhand in a marble composition book, sort of like a dummy (not me, the manuscript!), is proving useful. I’m using a highlighter to mark up the awkward read-aloud parts and the sentences that I think need tweaking. Yikes, there’s Day-Glo pink everywhere! I have included illustration notes at the bottom of the page to confirm that different illustrations are possible for each page.

So far so good.

Currently reading:

Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke

Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer

I am going to settle down to read those first pages over the weekend. I'm pretty sure that your horror novel is good to go (it was before these last tweaks, so I rather suspect you haven't effed it up somehow).

And your decision with respect to your PB is a good one. And you'll be out of the pink in no time (which sounds wrong, really, since one usually aspires to be in the pink).

Take your time. In the pink or out of it, I'm happily working on both projects.

Productivity = fun.
I think the light saber battle may have helped. Just a theory.
