AUTHOR DAYS - ALAN KATZ

Exhausted
Fatigued
Pooped
Knackered
Wiped out
Spent
Depleted

Get it? I'm tired.

I've enjoyed two full days of Alan Katz, visiting author to my children's elementary school. All our hardwork (and late nights) paid off as the event went smoothly despite the two-hour snow delay to the start of school yesterday. We shuffled some classes around and everything else went according to plan.

The kids LOVED Alan Katz. He is a funny, charming, accommodating and engaging speaker. He unabashedly sang his parodies, getting the kids to join in. I even heard some teachers singing and laughing (louder than the students!) along. He whipped the kids into a "we can do it" spirit towards writing.

The 3rd grade class wrote and sang their own song, thanking Alan for visiting and for writing such funny books, to the tune of "Take me out to the ballgame."

My older son jumped off the school bus, notebook in hand, babbling about the writing he had done on the bus ride home. My younger son asked me to write a special note to the school librarian requesting a hold on ALL the Alan Katz books that are in the school library. And no, he doesn't want to take them out one at a time so that other kids can also have a turn to read the books.

Thanks, Alan Katz, for being a "silly dilly" man and a great school visit.
