PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH

In the spirit of following my own advice, I've been spewing forth the first draft of my middle-grade fantasy adventure.  I've set an April deadline and a goal of a chapter a week in order to get it finished by then. I wrote 647 words in my notebook on the train yesterday and 523 on my laptop today - see I'm mixing up my tools and using whatever works depending on where (and in what mood) I am. I wrote half of chapter sixteen yesterday and a third of chapter fifteen today. I jumped around chapter-wise because yesterday I didn't know what one of my characters was doing in chapter fifteen and rather than have that hold me up, I skipped ahead to chapter sixteen while the little man inside my head figured it out. The momentum is building and carrying me along for the ride. I like it.

A boost for me - today a lady in my neighborhood told me she'd read my article in South Jersey Mom magazine. "I liked your article," she said. "It was very interesting." Thank you, Jeanne.
