RUNNING MOMENTUM

Ready. Set! Go!

And we’re off. Internal editor on mute (thank you, duct tape!). One, two, three words on the paper. Four, five, six, picking up speed. We aren’t judging their form, we are just letting them run - left word, right word (there are no wrong words.) Our focus is on the page, no research distractions. Skipping over those synonym obstacles. Okay, now we’ve got a rhythm going. Words are slapping onto the paper faster and faster. Too fast to judge, too fast to edit. So fast that others are following almost before we’ve thought of them. It’s a full on sprint now. Pen pounding, thoughts gasping. Aah! A stitch. A cramp. I WILL keep going. Last sentence burst.
Finish line!
Not a gold medal performance, but a fast first draft goal achievement none the less.

That felt awesome – endorphins flowing and word count growing. I’m doing this again tomorrow.
