A SATURDAY TO SMILE ABOUT

I slept in. This is how I like to start the weekend. Sleeping until 8. Woken gently by my little guy who knocks softly, approaches my bed on tiptoes and then whispers (most of the time), "The kettle's on," before scampering out of the room again. As I stretch, yawn and rub the mascara encrusted sleep from my eyes, my sweet hubby presents me with my cup of tea and my book. Aah, it doesn't get any bettere than this.

I read until 9:45, when two cups of tea and a bowl of oatmeal later, I sprang out of bed, feeling much like the weather. Wasn't it beautiful yesterday? A leisurely shower and teeth brushing later, I stood next to my car and smiled as the spring breeze sighed against my cheek and the sunshine kissed my eyelids.

I headed to the gym with M and because we were early for our Family Fitness class, we played a quick game of one-on-one on the basketball court. I'd never played this before but M was more than happy to demonstrate the rules. Ten minutes later, puffing, panting and laughing, we rested side by side on the court, staring up at the ceiling.

During Family Fitness, M and I jumped rope, bounced on the mini-trampolines, did jumping jacks, squats, sit-ups, and so much more, all the while singing along (well M wasn't singing but I certainly was!) to songs from Mamma Mia, Britney Spears and Beyonce. We had a ball, despite feeling on more than one occasion that my heart and lungs might explode from the exertion. To celebrate our survival, we shared a Butterscotch Krimpet from the vending machine before spending an hour swimming laps and fooling around in the fitness center pool.

After lunch I recuperated with an hour and a half nap (hey, I earned it!). In the evening I took the boys to a bowling birthday party. I enjoyed a beer and a slice of pizza while bowling a 109 and thereby trouncing the other 6 year-olds in my lane. I RULE!!!!!!

I finished off the day, much as I started it, in bed, reading my book. It was pretty much the perfect day.

They were pretty good about losing, not too many tears. I did have a little help from the bumpers - gutter guards. Of course, so did they.

For me, "sleeping in" to my satisfaction involves hours considerably later than 8 AM!

In the good old days before my little people, I also enjoyed sleeping in a lot later than 8.
