ALL OUR YESTERDAYS

Today is September 1st and even after 15 years of living in the northern hemisphere, I still associate this day with spring in South Africa. Every September 1st, our primary school celebrated Spring Day and we were allowed to dress in civvies instead of our school uniforms (oh the excitement!), preferably in something floral if you were a girl. Also, lessons for the day were put aside while all the kids participated in a flower arranging contest. I fondly remember the year that Shaun Williams' sweet pea arrangement won 3rd prize and how after school, he gave them to me. Sweet Peas have been one of my favorite flowers ever since.

Happy Spring Day!

Oh, how I wish it WERE spring, instead of this long slog into the darkness ...
(Fall is my least favorite season and I'm inclined to be dramatic about it.)

I love the iceberg lettuce crispness of autumn, not only in the air but also underfoot. But spring is prettier.

I finally sprung into action and replied to your comment. Sorry for slacking but I'm hoping to turn over a new leaf now that my parents have left. Once I've got over being bummed out by their leaving, that is. No pun intended there.
