THIS ARTIST'S WAY - Part 6

From Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way.

Recovering a sense of possibility - examine the limits we impose on ourselves in terms of what we believe we are able to accomplish.

“Expect your every need to be met, expect the answer to every problem, expect abundance on every level, expect to grow spiritually.”
       -
Eileen Caddy

No, there is no magic wand. It doesn’t just happen because you want it to. Instead there’s process that involves abandoning negative behavior patterns, clarifying visions of what we want and then working towards those visions.
                      Know what you want.
Believe that you can make it happen.
Provide the opportunity or impetus to make it happen.

In this chapter, Cameron introduces a two-step approach to Morning Pages. Before falling asleep at night, jot down questions on areas that you need guidance with. In the morning, write down possible answers to your questions.
I used this technique to help me with revisions to my middle-grade horror manuscript. Before switching off my bedside lamp I wrote: “How can I fix the prologue?” In the morning I used my Morning Pages to brainstorm different ways to make my prologue better, to make it do what I wanted it to do. The following night I left another question about my freshly revised prologue on the pink notepad next to my bed. In the morning, I brainstormed some more. And so the week went on. I feel like I’ve made a lot of progress this week.

“There is the risk you cannot afford to take, [and] there is the risk you cannot afford not to take.”
       -
Peter Drucker

Autumn is such a beautiful time of year. For my Artist Date this week I’m setting off on a neighborhood photo safari.

Hah! Tricky part is knowing the difference. Sometimes opportunities come my way but I don't want to address them because I'm afraid of the change that will take place. Then I think it through and realize that I may not want to do it, but it really is a worthwhile avenue to follow. And after forcing myself to jump, I often find that it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be and the payoff is big.

On a shelf inside my closet, I read the following quote each day:

When you focus on what it is you want, it will come into your life.

That's a good daily reminder. Hanging in my room I have a sign that reads: Demons are a ghoul's best friend. It may be for Halloween but I love it all year round.
