THIS ARTIST'S WAY - Part 7

From Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way:

The chapter I’m reading this week is about exploring the ways in which our attitudes stifle our creative output.

“By listening to the siren song of more, we are deaf to the still small voice waiting in our soul to whisper, ‘You’re enough.’ ”
Yes, our day jobs, chores, etc. interfere with our creativity time and if we had more money we could give up our jobs and write full time or we could pay somebody else to clean the house and have more time to spend on our craft. But it isn’t money that blocking us but rather our lack of control over our time. We let our frustration get in our way.
Instead of dwelling on the time you don’t have, live in the now and find enjoyment in what you do have. No matter how busy you are with the day-to-day drudgery, find a couple of minutes for expression. Once you seize those small moments and get into the habit of carving out time for yourself, more time will becomes available to you. It begins with a simple change in attitude – a can-do attitude – a shift in consciousness.

“True life is lived when tiny changes occur.”
      -  Leo Tolstoy

Cameron urges us to pamper ourselves in order to foster a feeling of abundance. Use your Artist dates to present yourself with the luxury of time for yourself. Splurge on a new notebook, a special tea cup, colored pens and paper. Even the smallest of extravagances make us feel special. It may seem silly but “silly is a defense our wet blanket adult uses to squelch our artistic child.”

“I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck.”
    -   Emma Goldman
