ON THE WINGS OF A PIG

I read today that John Steinbeck often signed his letters with his personal “Pigasus” logo, “a lumbering soul but trying to fly.” Ad Astra Per Alia Porci - to the stars on the wings of a pig.

Some days my writing feels like a boulder with the wings of a butterfly. I’m happy to lift off the grass never mind reach the stars. It helps to know that other writers have days like mine. Like Jeannine Atkins who says in Views From A Window Seat, “It’s all word by word, page and page, with lots of hope thrown in. And bumps.”

Yes, I’m bumping along, but I’ll get there even if it is only in fits and starts.

Yes, I read about Pigasus on Twitter, I think. I must tell my critique buddy, who has an obsession with flying pigs!

I received Jeannine's book in the mail but I haven't started it yet. Looking forward to it!

I like to read a page or two of Jeannine's book before each writing session. That takes care of my need to procrastinate and also helps me focus on writing. Views from a Window Seat is insightful and well written. Jeannine has a talent for beautiful and thought-provoking language.

Sorry about the bumps which 99% of us (according to non-scientific studies) have. But I kind of love how you're using the book as helpful procrastination! Some procrastination is inevitable, so it's lovely there can be some kind of nudge in yours.

Best wishes for your new year!
