I DID IT!

******

I’ve spent months doing everything but new writing on my current, halfway done, WIP. I’ve drafted new picture books. I’ve revised manuscripts. I’ve polished my writer’s resume and submitted work-for-hire samples. So yeah, I’ve been busy writing, but not writing what I’m “supposed” to be. And I know why – I’m afraid that what’s in my head won’t come out right on the page. And I know that’s a stupid reason for not writing because I can fix stuff during revisions but still I couldn’t bring myself to try.
Then on Sunday I told myself, “ENOUGH! Stop being such a scaredy cat.” I emailed my friend Jenn, writerjenn   “Tomorrow, and by that I mean Monday August 25th, I will write a new scene. And I won't insist on reading everything I've written so far (for the 20th time). I'm just going to dive in.”
And I did. And it wasn’t so hard. I only wrote 250 words on Monday, but on Thursday I wrote 1,650.
Now to get back at it so I don’t lose momentum.

I had to crack the whip at myself, but it wasn't so painful once I got started.

Yah! The hardest lesson I learned when writing my first novel was "Don't worry if it's garbagy. You can edit it later."

It's weird but it didn't happen with my first novel. Perhaps I never considered that it could be garbage. Now I know better!
