BAH!

Today’s words are flowing like a slimeless snail laboring up an icy incline. My runny nose and hacking cough may have something to do with that. Or possibly I’ve lost my momentum due to a relaxing long weekend off. My internal editor sounds like Mother-in-law’s tongue and no amount of pressing my finger to my lips will get her to shush or go home. Yet I remain in my seat (sans superglue and handcuffs) and plonk down some 500 or so words into my manuscript. The sparkling company of my writing buddy Kelly and the delicious donuts she brought, certainly help. This middle section of my first draft is like a petulant toddler sulking in a self-imposed timeout. That’s okay. I don’t feel like playing either. I think I have middle-of-the-road blues.

Keep going. In this case, your quest to write is mimicking your character's particular quest, I think, and you will have to haul yourself over the boulder in your path as best you are able and keep going.

Thank you. The virtual broth and a good night's sleep is sure to do the trick.
