Snot Just A Ritual

For the last two weeks I have been trying to get submissions out. I need to do a better job of getting my manuscripts out there, but truth be told, writing stories is much more fun than trying to sell them. Researching markets for manuscripts is time consuming and eats into my writing time. Still, if I don't get them out there ...

Today I can pat myself on the back. I mailed off five subs. I have a silly ritual I like to follow once my babies are ensconced in their envelopes and ready to be released on their journeys into the big world of publishing. Besides hoping that they don't get "lost", I pat the envelopes and talk to them, "Goodbye, little ones," I whisper and I give each envelope a little kiss. (Yes, like Rob Thomas, "I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell. I know, right now you can't tell ...)

Just before I pop the subs in the mailbox, I ask one of my boys to blow on them for good luck. As kids, my dad asked my brother and me to blow on his dice for good luck when we played monopoly. It worked for him and he was always rolling in the dough by the end of the game - and I do mean literally. Seems we're all a little unwell in my family.

Today's subs are loaded with good luck. My little guy has a runny nose, so when I told him to blow on my subs for good luck (he was playing Wii and a little distracted) he blew through his nose and snotted them. Globs of good luck?

Could this be the way to get an editor's attention? Who nose  knows?  I'll let you know if one of my snotty subs is picked up.
