SCENE IT

I have a ghost story buzzing around in my brain. Well, it’s not a complete story - it’s a beginning and an end. And it has been buzzing around in there for over a year. I’ve been busy with revisions and other projects but I’m ready to start on this one now. I think.

Thinking is something I’m doing a lot of. It’s not writing on paper or a keyboard but I see it as writing of a kind – the kind that happens in my head. I’m visualizing and listening.

I’m also prewriting and trying out character sketches, but only when my thinking gets loud and the need to write it down becomes compulsive. I’m trying not to plot too much – I know the beginning and end and the premise, of course, but I’m trying to let the story come to me in scenes – like movies scenes – which I’m jotting down and at some point will link together. I also want to see if I can build up momentum by writing a scene a day rather than trying to shoot for a certain word count a day.

My goal is to have 3 chapters written (first draft only – absolutely no revising!) by the end of October and even if they stink, at least they’ll give me an idea of where my story is going. I’m pretty sure they are not going to stink.

This is a new approach for me, kind of organic.

It feels right.

And I’m having fun.
